Description
THE UNITED CHURCH AND ITS ANTECEDENT DENOMINATIONS IN HISTORIC YORK COUNTY
The United Church of Canada was formed in 1925, a union of Methodist, some Presbyterian, Congregational, Church of Christ Disciples, and Interdenominational congregations, joined later by the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Records for all these denominations may have ended up at the United Church Archives. This book is a finding aid for researchers looking for United churches and registers in today’s Toronto and York Region. Includes details for each congregation with dates, location(s), architecture, photos, history as well as extant records of baptisms, marriages and burials giving inclusive dates, indicating gaps and whether original, microfilm or transcribed. Printed by geographic area, with maps, in chronological order of establishment with a consolidated, alphabetical index. “Pedigrees” are included showing the development and relationship of congregations in clusters—which may provide crucial clues to the church your ancestor attended. Name changes of congregations, towns and streets are listed as well as an extensive source list.
NOTE: This publication is also available to current Toronto Branch members, free of charge, on our Members Only pages.
