A project of the York Region Branch of OGS to honour the area’s war dead, these two volumes include names from war memorials, municipal government minutes, and newspapers—particularly the Toronto Daily Star which was justifiably proud of its files on soldiers and their families. The listings attempt to consolidate the newspaper’s casualty lists with more detailed information printed a few days later and other information. References can be used to consult the Star on microfilm or online.
Volume 1: York County
Volume 2: Toronto City*
Note: The nearly 10,000 listings in volume 2 include many new immigrants and many soldiers who only enlisted in Toronto. The geographic coverage is much broader than the city.
