Description

After 1829 all men over the age of sixteen who were not British subjects and who had lived in Upper Canada more than seven years, were required by law to take an oath of allegiance. The resulting records can provide clues as to when an ancestor arrived and where he settled. This book contains nominal indexes to all the surviving records as well as valuable insight into the changes in legislation and geography for each register that may help to pin down an arrival date. A good complement to the digital images found on the Library and Archives Canada website.
