This is a facsimile edition of the 1893 book with the addition of a comprehensive index. It was produced in 1992 by the Toronto Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society as a celebration of both the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Town of York and the 25th anniversary of Toronto Branch. (Limited quantity remaining.)
The book is a richly illustrated, glowing account of the city—the first 50 pages detail its ideal-for-business location and amenities, history, government, manufacturers, organizations, places of worship, the university, and splendid office buildings. This is followed by more than 180 pages of business descriptions, ranging in length from several pages to a few inches, mostly illustrated. It is clear that the information was provided by the business owners and operators—and provides an excellent source to gauge the goods and services that were available and the values that were important to Torontonians in 1893.
