Description

Includes more than 10,500 records accumulated over 54 years. Founded in 1861 by a Roman Catholic family, the early location was on King Street close to St. Paul’s Basilica and the House of Providence. While catering to customers of many religions—this transcription is very important to those with Catholic ancestors.

The earliest records show only name, death date, and who paid, but the information collected gradually increases. Most records show the name and age of the deceased, places of birth and death, cause of death, religion, cemetery, physician, clergy, date of funeral, who paid and their address. Often included are the location within the cemetery, and occupation. Sometimes there are notes about extra services like transportation within Toronto and far beyond, and the placement of newspaper death notices.

Illustrated and fully indexed. The index can also be consulted in The Ontario Name Index.
