Directories are a very important sources for Toronto research. This booklet is an alphabetical list of City of Toronto inhabitants extracted from Rowsell’s City of Toronto and County of York Directory for 1850–51. Includes an introduction, population statistics, and a bibliography. Does not include Etobicoke, Scarborough, and York Townships which are now part of the city of Toronto. Each listing (heads of households) gives a location and occupation when available. A good substitute for the 1852 census which is missing for Toronto.
